What I'm Reading Right Now (25)

Quote of the day:
You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop. -Rumi

There are a few books that can be read over and over again, and one of such is what I am reading this week. It is by Lebanese author Kahlil Gibran  and titled 'The Prophet'. It contains a collection of 26 poetic essays and was written way back in 1926. It is a book that I have read a few times in the past -and is indeed a true classic.

It tells the story of a prophet-Almustafa, who has waited for 12 years for a ship to return him to his home. And just before he departs, he imparts knowledge to a group of people, discussing such matters as; love, self-knowledge, friendship, pain, and so on.

It certainly is a delight to read over and over again.

What books are you currently reading?

  3. Your reading material is certainly a lot more high-brow than mine ;-)
Currently reading Christmas novels, as has become my habit this time of year. It's all rather cheesy and although the last one was funny and enjoyable, the current has tempted me a few times to put it aside and start on another book.

  10. Yes, I've read that two or three times. Found it very soothing and wise.
At the moment I'm reading my annual pensioners newsletter. More colleagues have died. But that's life. Hope my own name is not in it for some considerable time yet though :). You may recall I have a book titled Keep Running Until 100. That's my longer term ambition.

  24. Thank you for your comment on my blog the other day. I have not read The Prophet, but based on your opinion, I will check it out. I too love the smell of rain, and in these early morning hours, while it's still dark outside and the jungle is saturated with the scent of soft rain and a chorus of matins, I sip my coffee and am thankful I am writer living in paradise.

  27. Interesting book review... I'm currently reading a historical fiction piece called WHITE COLLAR GIRL, it's very good thus far! About a woman in Chicago in the 1950s trying to make it as a newspaper reporter.

Like the quote too. Very uplifting.

    Happy Friday!
