1. Where the Lights Don't Shine

The other day I had some floor lamp delivered. A few minutes later it was all set up, no hassle, and apart from the use of a little screw driver, not much effort was put into assembling this lamp, a beacon of light and energy. Thereafter, It got me pondering about self -created suffering and its effects, about how we make things too complicated for ourselves sometimes. Whatever happened to simplicity? Our souls have become darker than before, and we are barely glowing.

2. 3:33AM

Every other night this same dream occurs. It isn't filled with jeopardy or any evil of sorts. I know this because although my mind may seem awake, my body isn't. Time does not really matter much when one is asleep, and dreaming. When one has wings like the birds, and flying effortlessly across vast lands. We become what we always wanted eventually, either in our dreams or in reality.

3. A Thousand Stories Need Just One Author

A thousand stories to be told and all waiting for the right author. It is not necessary for there to be a thousand authors for this task, as only one can readily accomplish what a thousand others can do. What is it that the heart can not yearn for? What great accomplishment can one not dream of? Just because something requires a lot of minds and thinking does not mean the same can not be thought of by one individual -you.

Plans For The Week #40

Have you ever felt like you are yet to unearth your main purpose in life? There are two certainties I've observed about life: you are either a dreamer or you are not. You either have a purpose or not. You are either for something or against something as far as principles go.

I never want to stop being able to dream, to be able to imagine untold possibilities. I never want to get so comfortable as to neglect my ability to dream. I want to be able to look back at the end of any given period, and acknowledge that dreaming as taken me thus far.

With that in mind, my plans for the previous week went accordingly. I arose early on each day, showed more interest in things around me, and kept my mind, body and soul healthy.

Here are my list of things to achieve for the coming week.


1. Arise early. After having gone to bed early too. I will use this opportunity to perhaps meditate, workout to increase my fitness levels, read and prepare breakfast, while picturing a productive day.

2. Tracking calories. Thanks to an app, I've been monitoring my calorie intake since the start of the month. It really helps to put things in perspective especially meeting my present nutrition needs.

3.  Read a book. A new book for the week, or perhaps even two as my goal for the month is at least five books. I'll pick from my collection and hopefully blog about it during the week.

4.  Attend an entrepreneurship event. Mid week, I hope to attend an event which will be a great opportunity to network with people and learn new developments and ideas.

5. De-clutter. I understand this has to start from within, and so I will purge my thoughts to free up mental space. Things like going for walks, doing less work and focusing on a single thing instead of many things at a time.

6. Relax and have fun. Spend my leisure time relaxing and having fun. Asides reading, I plan to watch movies -haven't done that in a while. And when the week ends, hopefully spend time surrounded by good conversation and great company.

7. Dream. It's never ending, and one must keep dreaming big every time.

Plans For The Week #39

Generosity and compassion seem to me to more instilled in people's consciousness these days. We may understand this better when we are touched by the outstanding stories and efforts of others, in caring, in volunteering, their resources and time. We may even be touched by the mere fact that our past pains and sufferings mirror that of someone in need. In fact, you may not need to look too far, as you may be part of the selfless group of individuals doing their little bit to make the world a better place. Wouldn't it be nice to feel that we are all better, and living in a better world, due to our collective effort. One in which money and power mean a lot less, than generosity and compassion.

I hope you will agree that our society needs a lot more compassion. And with that in mind, I am going into the new week with the following goals.


1. Rise early. Ideally before the sun comes up. A great time to think, workout, and even do some slight reading before the burdens of the day creeps up.

2. Show More Interest. I hope to keep an eye on my nutrition, and well being. I also plan to show more genuine interest in others.

3. Read. What's a week without reading? I'll choose from my reading collection a book or more that suits my needs.     

4. Fitness. I hope to spend at least 30 minutes every other day exercising.

5. Projects. Work on completing personal projects and reports.

6.  Feed. I hope to occupy my mind with clean, positive and great thoughts.

7. Dream. I will focus on a single dream, and eat, sleep, wake up to it.

What I'm Reading Right Now #32

The whole question of what to read often plagues me. Another question is when to read as I find often that timing is everything. It must be said though, that my reason for choosing authors is entirely up to how my present state and form is, coupled with varying factors. For example, I picked my book read for the previous week as it closely matched my needs.

You will understand the difficulty in choosing what to read when you have run out of books in your possession, and must then begin inspecting your reading list or those of others in order to be introduced to new authors. In the end, truth is, with old and new titles there can never be a lack of books to read...never.

My book read for the week is by Japanese author Kazuo Ishiguro and titled 'The Remains of the Day', a classic with Ishiguro managing to weave a brilliant and narrative story surrounding Stevens who is an ageing English butler, who sets out on a motoring tour through the countryside. The remains of the day is a compelling tale, touching on relationships, the dignity derived from work and life, of old traditions, and with undertones of politics, romance and sadness.

8 Pre- Installed Apps On My New Phone

I know of a certain fellow who recently purchased a smartphone. In his eyes, and from his view, this is the ultimate gadget, the equivalent of a super car going from 0-60 miles per hour in 6 seconds, and with this and that functionality. But in my eyes, this smartphone is humongous -almost the size of a small tablet.I must say that before now, I'd seen the type with random people and I always imagined how in the world it would fit in their pockets, or handbags as the case may be. And although this post isn't about this fellow, let us ponder on the poor souls out there who have to carry such heavy burden around -because an average phone with an average screen isn't just enough.

Seeing as we live in a fast moving world where technology plays a vital role, one could argue that advancement is inevitable. Smart phones, smart cars, smart TVs and smart wristwatches. There doesn't appear to be any end in sight really. But I digress.

If you have a smart phone (who doesn't these days?), you would understand the importance of application programs or apps. They provide a lot of functionality, and tasks -necessary in our ever busy lifestyles. Mobile apps of course come in different forms and on different platforms, from Android, Windows to Apple's iOS. with millions already developed -and dare I say a million or more in development. According to a research by ComScore, the time spent on mobile apps has seen unprecedented growth in recent times with Facebook at the forefront.

Having said that, here are a few apps that came pre-installed on a new phone I purchased. Gone are the old days of having just the good old calculator and alarm clock, how time flies indeed.

Amazon: Just because ordering items on a smartphone is way cooler. Plus, you get more discounts.

Facebook: Well, a good opportunity to search for old schoolmates from the comfort of a toilet seat and without a worry in the world.

Just Eat: Not just any food, but takeaway at the click of a button, or more like tap of a screen.

News: What better way to stay updated on current events, with each news story coming as a notification. Just because one can never be content with having enough news.

Skype: Basically talk and talk as you like -using wifi or other.

Skype Video: What's Skype without video, right?

Uber: And what better way to get connected to a driver, while stranded on a mountain top with just enough phone signal to summon a ride.

Netflix: And who doesn't want to sit idly, watching the latest episodes on a small screen, with earphones on -shutting out the entire world.

Jokes apart, as far as apps go, we all have a need for them. What apps do you currently use the most?

Plans for the Week #38

We all strive for change, in different ways and sometimes the power that drives us wanes over time only to pick up again. Indeed the new year is such a time for lofty goals and new habits. In the end if one must succeed, great effort and and constant supply of will power is needed for sustenance.

The amount of things to do is limitless. However, one must chose wisely so as not to become overwhelmed. Keeping things easy and simple is always ideal. I am going into the new week with the following set of goals.


1. Go to bed by 11pm, and rise at 6am, giving me an extra hour to meditate, prepare breakfast and even do some reading.

2. Workout after rising, four times during the week. I started this in the previous week, and it gave me a boost of energy and clarity of thoughts during the day.

3. Devour at least one new book. I have a reading list for the month and i am on my second book.

4. Carry out some maintenance and editing on this blog.

5. Declutter things including my wardrobe and working space.

6. Spend less time on irrelevant things like idleness, gossip and unhealthy thoughts.

7. Create achievable future goals and keep dreaming big.

A 12-year-old volunteer, Makenna Breading-Goodrich, started a movement to collect coats for the homeless 3 years ago. Going door to door in her hometwon, she collected over 500 coats in the past year.

What I'm Reading Right Now (31)

Last year, yours truly managed to read around 30 books- which is no mean feat considering the fact that those hours could've have been utilized elsewhere. But I do enjoy devouring books. Settling down in a cosy spot, oblivious to the world, lost in plot, gripped by protagonists and villains. Looking back now, my total tally appears insignificant -and the challenge is to double the numbers this year.

I often do my reading and writing to music -but not all the time. 'What is the best music to listen to while reading?', asks The Guardian -which is running a survey that explores the pairing of music and literature. You can check it out.

The book I'm reading for the week is titled 'The Good Earth', by Pearl.S.Buck. The story is set in China, right before the revolution. It centres around a peasant farmer named Wang Lung, and chronicles his relationships with his father, wife and children over years of need and poverty. It is soaked in cultural influences, and the author manages to spin a very poetic work which I find refreshing. I am enjoying the book so far.

7 Steps To Having A Valuable Year

So another year is here. I like to think of it in terms of having a new sheet of paper, but with the same pen. Of course there are immense benefits to starting anything afresh -be it a year, a day, a relationship and so on. Great expectations often follows, like a new day with fresh clouds.

So here is to every deserving pursuit of your goals. I maintain a weekly list of goals, often greater than five. It helps to put things in perspective. Its something you can try too. You might just end up getting things done faster and with less stress. I have managed to produce seven steps to having a profitable year.

1.  Forgive Others And Even Yourself

There is always room for different emotions like love and forgiveness. They both require an openness and essence that transcends. You don't change the past when you forgive, but you change the present and future. To start thinking anew, you must embrace life, and let go of the past.

2. Early To Bed, Early To Rise
This isn't easy, but is achievable over time. It not only helps you health-wise, but also does wonders for your mind. I can attest to that fact. There is a certain freshness and clarity of the mind when you get up earlier than usual in the morning, due to a great night's rest. This truth, will help kick start your day, and keep you alert all day. And in between all these, eating healthy and working out helps too.

3. Don't Be Afraid

Well it is easier said than done, bur fear may turn out to be one of the biggest things holding you back. Fear of failure, of what other people would say, of how to move on, of loving again, of moving on, and a thousand other fear factors. It can be quite distressing. It cripples your thoughts, emotions, and well being. Maybe its about time that you faced your fears.

4. Travel And See The World

Get out of your postcode, area and current location. Plan a mini trip to another county, state, or country. Do your research before you go. Transport and feeding costs for one. And what is the place famous for? If it is another country, what language skills will you require? Gather all relevant information, and then make plans. It may not even be for this year -maybe the next, but do go out and see the world. Just go. In other words, try out something new.

5. Make The Right Decisions For Yourself

At times in life we have to make important decisions. In the end, some of those decisions may hurt the people around us, but truthfully positive growth and change is the only way forward. Decide for yourself what's best for you, what you know will make you happy, and be confident enough to go for it.

6. Keep Track of Important Things, Dates

It is easy to get lost and be overwhelmed with everyday life. And truthfully, keeping an eye out on important things like finances, personal well being, and important dates can be tasking. Make a spirited effort this year and watch it pay off in the end. For instance, you can set Facebook email notifications, or schedule birthdays onto your phone calendar -never forgetting the birthday of someone important again. There all sorts of apps around to help you stay on track. And if that's not for you, then good old pen and paper should do the trick.

7. Be Alert To Everything

Be alert to everything the world has to offer. Observe the dawn of a new day and marvel at the sun. Acknowledge the sun as it sets, and ponder on your achievements for that day. Be alert to new possibilities and emotions. Be alert to your body and the messages it passes to you. Be calm, humble, confident, and show self-control, but be alert. Be alert to repetition, and also originality. Be alert to the universe, to your thoughts and actions.
