Poem: A Weed Is A Flower

Quote of the day:

Once you go inside and weed through the muck, you will find the real beauty, the truth about yourself.
-Lindsay Wagner

A lone flower
Petals that entice as a moth to a flame
Winds caress and then deflower
Thereafter nothing remained the same

An army of weeds
Marching through a scented prison
Trees are merely overgrown seeds
Rise and fall to become newly arisen

 A voice calls out
Why have you left me out in the cold?
After all is taken what is left to sprout
That rain may bring new life to behold

Life may not be lived under a shade
A dream is not just an indulgence made

A flute is ineffectual unless played
And true love is eternal it doesn’t fade

In writing outside my comfort zone this form is a little narrative poem which turned out far more interesting than what I had in mind. It can be interpreted in any way and make of it what you will. The last stanzas take the form of a slight 'couplet' -two lines with similar rhymes. Hope you find it enjoyable to read.

Peace. Love. Light*

  6. I did enjoy it and I also like that you stated it can be interpreted however we choose. It always frustrated me when teachers insisted poems had specific meanings. I believe, as individuals, we can often find other meanings that are more personal.

    1. It certainly is frustrating to be told what to think of a creation. The beauty of life is that we can choose what we want to believe when it comes to art and expression. Something about it all that we see in ourselves maybe. Warm greetings.

  7. Many years ago my little grandson said "a weed is just a flower that's growing where you don't want it to." He loved things like dandelions and couldn't understand how some people could kill them. We have what I call "country lawn" full of anything that grows to keep the dust down and there are plenty of dandelions for him. But he's grown now and I'm not sure what his take on weeds is anymore.
    Enjoy your day.

    1. Your grandson must have grown into an inquisitive fellow. His line of thought then is impressive. But who knows where his thoughts align now. Thanks for sharing this, and nice of you to stop by.
