Musings of mine: Rambling Mind on This and That #12

Quote of the day:

Laugh and the world laughs with you, snore and you sleep alone. -Anthony Burgess

Train Runners

What's one of the funniest things to see when walking along a busy street? Surely one of mine has to be the sight of people racing to the station to catch a train. Early morning, rush hour, picture a 100 yard dash minus the Olympics. I assume nobody wakes up in the morning thinking "I am going to leave the house later than usual, and try to make a run for the train station!". If you are new to a big city or town it could be an alarming sight to see. For one, you are not sure if they are being chased or even worse if they are running up to catch up with you. They are definitely certain to give Usain Bolt a run for his money.

Don't Just Watch the Leaves Fall

It's that time of the year again. When dreams collide, when plans get evaluated and when trees shed leaves. Before long people tell anyone who cares to listen 'I can't wait for summer to come' and everyone nods approvingly. Say goodbye to the heat, sunshine, cold showers and ice cream.Say goodbye to the skimpy outfits, sun glasses, and very cold drinks. Alas, say hello to cold rain, gloomy weather and hot drinks. Say hello to heavy clothing, scarves and shorter days, longer nights. Don't just watch the leaves fall, go on with your normal life. Hibernate and all.

Time Snatchers

Why do we always do the opposite of what we mean? If you enjoy meeting up/planning events with people this one is for you. Beware of anyone who tells you "I'll be there in five minutes," only to show up half an hour later with a ton of excuses. If you say you are five minutes away then you must be close by, no? As in you are just around the corner and walking to the specified location. Worse still some will tell you "I am on my way," but what they basically mean is "I lost track of time. I am just about to shower, and who knows how long it will take me to decide what to wear, figure out the route, and check the weather app". These people are perpetual time snatchers- who will do anything to keep you away from your sanity.

Selective Memory

Ever get a blitz of forgotten memory right out of the blue? Sneaky, and unannounced. How is it that you recollect such a moment from years ago, but fail to remember what you had for lunch on the first day of the month, or where you left your keys, or why you are standing in the middle of the room trying hard to figure out why you had walked in there in the first place.

The Countdown

Just in case you are wondering how many days are left till Christmas, it's 69. That's roughly 10 weeks from now. Shocking yes? Well what's more shocking is the fact that since August -think nice summery days and barbecues, a few shops have set up their Christmas section, completely confusing those of us who can only tolerate seeing festive decorations in late November or even early December.

Peace. Love. Light*

  1. I've seen some Christmas items in Target, but they might be up all year round in a corner of the store. I'm not sure anymore. Time snatchers are funny. If I'm late, at least I say that I'm late and try to explain, even if the reason is that I couldn't get my lazy butt out of bed.

    Love,

    1. All year round celebrations, who knew. Yes time snatchers are a funny lot -but only after you've forgiven them are you able to be amused by their behavior. Thanks for stopping by.

  2. Hi Blogoratti :) I'm VERY much enjoying the fall weather. I love this time of year! I even enjoy raking! The world is beautiful and I shift from "living" most of my life outside to baking, cooking, preserving food and cleaning. I actually look forward to this.

I used to be one of those sprinters...I'm so glad that part of my life is done!

    1. Rain, I know a lot of folks who enjoy this time of the year. You seem to have it all figured out making nice meals in your nest, what more could anyone ask for. It is indeed a great time of the year even if I say so myself. Greetings!

  4. Hi Blogoratti ... oh I hate being late - I'd rather get there early and not rush around ... and Usain Bolt and I would never meet ... he'd be at infinity! Love the walking through the leaves ... and yes I'll not want to the cold to arrive ... but I do love the seasons .. cheers Hilary

  5. At a certain point, you won't even have to take the train. You can just sprint straight to work.

  7. Wow Christmas is coming sooner than I realized, the warm weather has indeed put that holiday further away in my mind.

I had to laugh at the time snatchers description as it describes my daughter perfectly, we like to tell her the time of family gatherings as an hour earlier than scheduled simply so she will be there on time.

  8. Beautiful Autumn photography and filled with wisdom post ~ We are really 'machines' who need to become more mindful of the moment ~ Life is too fleeting not to enjoy 'what is' ~ practice, practice, practice ~ ^_^

  9. I loved each scenario, Time Snatchers is my favorite. they drive me crazy, I can't say how many times I have heard, I am on the way and that means an hour or two... makes me nuts. my memory is truly selective, my husband informed me I had been on a glass bottom boat in 1985 at Weeki Watchi, I said they don't even have glass bottom boats, he described the ride. I looked it up and they do have them and it looks just like what he remembers. the only thing I remember is the mermaids under water.

  11. Amusing and all true. Time snatchers are especially annoying. And you will be dismayed to know that I am almost finished with my Christmas shopping. Most of my children and grandchildren live hundreds of miles away. I mail them their gifts right after Thanksgiving so they will get them in time for Christmas. So I get the gifts early in order to have time to wrap them and prepare them for the mail.

    1. Emma, I applaud you for thinking ahead and it makes sense if your family live so far away. Getting gifts early is great, warm greetings!

  14. Train Runners sounds hilarious.
I absolutely love Christmas, "Happy Birthday Jesus", but Christmas decorations in August, September, and October drive me crazy. Can we please ease into the holiday season?

  15. Already the Christmas decorations are out and it always feels too early, but then at the same time I can't hide my excitement - I love Christmas! Thank you for the lovely comments on my posts too. - Tasha

  16. Oh, how I despise those time-snatchers! I'm a very punctual person, and this is one of my pet peeves. And those memory glitches? They drive me to distraction when they happen. And can we wait until Thanksgiving is over to start on Christmas? Whew! Just love your random thoughts here.
    Blessings!

  17. Finally, we can start to enjoy some cooler weather here and welcome fall. The past several weeks have been filled with way too warm weather and I welcome the long sleeves, sweatshirts and socks now. I agree that holiday decorations should not be seen until at least Thanksgiving here, which is a late November timeframe. That's the way it was when I was growing up and the way it is in the film, A Christmas Story, as it should be,

  18. Oh gosh this says to me that Christmas is coming up really fast! Enjoyed today's thoughts and the funny quote.

  19. I have one book by Anthony Burgess. Only one. Forgot the name - selective memory? It is here somewhere. Saw A Clockwork Orange. Detested the movie. I was not ready for it. It has stayed with me since then. It gives me goosebumps. : )

Train runners - I can imagine. Never took public transportation to work. : )

Leaves - they are falling, they look beautiful, but I am thinking about winter. I am not living the present as far as the seasons are concerned. And that is wrong!!

Time snatchers: I say I am on my way - sometimes I am still on my driveway, inside the car, applying lipstick.

Countdown: there is a Christmas Store, opened all year round, in Niagara Falls. I refuse to go into that store between Dec 27 and Dec 1st the following year! : ))

Enjoy the present to the fullest and be happy!!

    1. Liking the descriptions. A Christmas store open all year round? Oh my, what's the world turned into. Ha, so we finally caught a time snatcher, please report to your nearest time snatcher rehab.

      Warm greetings!

  20. I read the funniest thing in September about stores putting out their Christmas stuff. Normally the person would be upset at them jumping the gun so early, but this year, the poster thought how optimistic they were, thinking we'd still be around for Christmas this year. A different way of looking at it ;)

  21. Nice quote ,here it has word "cry" instead of sleep.

    Beautiful post like always!

Such rush hours are fascinating when you see them from somewhere above, I will want to have a remote control in my hand and stop them all for while ,than cost spell over them so they can relive and rethink "what's the hurry ,do whatever you do but remeber could be the last moment of life so slow down take a deep breath and count the blessings ,specially legs with what you run

Fall leaves ? ah they tell Story of Real aspect of life so beautifully ,they call to contemplate

Memories have spontaneous flow ,they come with relative aspects .
some of them never lit off .such as it snowed in my village and it was first and last i saw there .that day when we reached home from school mom served peas and potatoes with boiled eggs curry ,unforgettable one.

Hope you enjoy to see people 's enthusiasm for the biggest event of the year in your homeland

    1. A remote control sounds just about right if that would stop their mad rush.
And what an interesting memory for you to share, it must have been such a grand moment, great weather and even better food.
Thanks for the wishes, warm greetings to you.

  22. These thoughts are very amusing but also right on the nail.
Some people always seem to rushing at the last minute, maybe sometimes there is a reason, but always....?
And do you ever get calls on the telephone from someone who wants you to answer a survey and say that it will only take two minutes?
Yes, time-snatchers are bad, bad people. Turn up on time, folks!
And yes, let us celebrate all of the seasons, each one is a wonder.
Thanks for these mini-rants, loved them.

  24. Rather 10 minutes early than 5 minutes late, that´s how I grew up.
It´s a sign of respect as well.
The running, oh, yes, that can be scary, esp when someone runs to you in the dark!
I´m sorry for the kids these days. Is there still magic once xmas finally arrives???

  25. I was in Walmart yesterday and noticed that the Garden Center has been switched over to Christmas. At least it hasn't seeped out into the rest of the store, yet. That's too full of Halloween/Thanksgiving for now. ;)

I'm a right on time or early person, so those stragglers can frustrate me.

  28. Your fall picture is beautiful.
I like to walk through the woods and listen to the leaves fall. I actually like the winter and snow and glad I live in a place with all 4 seasons.
I've seen Christmas decorations already too. Way too early for me!!

  29. I can relate to the selective memory. Happens every now and then. The countdown should be changed and start at the end of November. It seems the holidays come earlier every year for the store displays.

  30. I wish I lived where I can experience autumn and watch the leaves fall. :)

  32. I thoroughly enjoyed your thought snippets.. and perhaps I can shed light on the Holiday displays. The sales of the holidays, can be one half to a third of the sales for a single store per year. In order for them to stay in business, they need to sell as much as they can. If we don't support them, we will be buying everything on Amazon!!

  33. I can't wait for summer to roll around. It's my seasonal jam and I already miss it.

My niece is one who is always going to be here "in a few minutes" but shows up 3 hours late. We've started telling her our gatherings start 2 to 3 hours before the actual time of the gathering just so she'll get here at a decent hour.

  34. I remember running for the bus years and years ago, and it seemed like everyone would laugh as it pulled off, knowing I would be late for work. The positive is that I got an aerobic workout. Still, I'm pretty anal about timeliness, so I get to places super early with book or planner in hand to pass the time while waiting. Yes, I do find myself forgetting things more, but the Planner sure helps. Great post! Hugs...RO

  35. I'm not so much a fan of Fall, only because it's a prelude to a wet and rainy winter and wet and rainy first half of fall. I hate wet, rainy climates.
Christmas decorations this time of year are cringeworthy.
    Great pic though!

  36. This really made me chuckle, loved it. I'm actually a fan of the gloomy weather, I don't know why. I really detest when people time-snatch you know? I try not to be one as it's not a nice thing to be. I cannot believe Christmas 2017 is almost here, time really does fly! xx

  39. What a gorgeous photo, Blogoratti! I'm probably on time at least 95% of the time. I hate having my time wasted, so I try very hard not to waste others' time. We've got Christmas decorations going up around here to. Not a fan of that!
