What If Everything Was A Dream

Quote of the day:

It’s fun to think of the what-if. Scary, but fun. It’s like, I thought this door was closed before, but here it is open just the tiniest crack. What if?” -Jenny Han

Which came first, the egg or the chicken?

It doesn't matter. Our existence is by no means a mistake and was always meant to happen. When you think of a thousand things that could have gone wrong, it becomes a game of 'what ifs' with less structure and more challenges and rules. And the age old question, 'What if you were never born?' A valid question to ask but one without a definite answer. The world would be different but only because of your absence. Every single person you have made contact with, friends, family, colleagues, each one of them would have a void that could have been filled by your existence -either good or bad.

But in all truth, the sun would never lose sleep. Neither would the moon dim itself, or clouds shed additional tears simply because you are not part of the world. But what if they did? Would anyone even notice? But for you not to be born your parents' must not have crossed paths. Another 'what if' in a box of many. Having said that whilst we are alive and well, an important question to ask yourself daily is 'what can I do to make things better'? 'How can I leave a mark such that my absence would be missed'?

There are always questions. You cannot walk through life and not seek certain answers. Do we just live and fade away like leaves during autumn. Do we uproot ourselves but remain grounded with our unresolved sentiment watching the whole world spiral out of control around us. We all have our 'what if' moments, and there is that one about going back to the past to change something. Rather than have the ability to go back to the past, or even the future, the present works fine for me. There is urgency, there is intent, there is acceptance, and decisions are made here and now. And at some point in life our journey reveals a lot to us, much more than we ever hoped for. When we eventually strip away at the tall wall of noise and distraction the fear of the future and melancholy of an unalterable past fritter away.

Peace. Love. Light*

  1. Why is there an asterik after light?

What if...good question...we matter so much. I like how this quote says it:

“In this galaxy, there is a mathematical probability of three million
Earth-type planets. And in all of the universe,
three million million galaxies like this.
    And in all of that
    and perhaps more,
only one of each of us.”

Dr. Leonard McCoy. (on Star Trek)

  2. Ha, such a great post! I love the thought of parallel universes and such. That door that was closed now open a crack could mean you've switched to a parallel universe. Fun to think about. Try going through a day like that and watching for subtle shifts in how you thought things were. Ever get that feeling like for instance if you were backing out of a parking spot and this car zipped passed behind you and then you stopped and felt like that car went right through yours? Makes like interesting on a whole other level.
    Enjoy YOUR day!

  5. My head is spinning! Seriously, I try to not think of "what ifs" since there's no going back.

  6. I like these types of questions as there is so much to ponder. We are all connective, interlocking pieces to the giant puzzle of life. I refer to this as the ripple effect. I also refer to it as the web of life each of us a strand that creates the intricate whole. Which would you rather be the leaf or the tree? I try to live in the now, but I do have my what if moments. I believe we have the ability to still change our path, but there is the risk factor. How will you ever know if you don’t follow your heart/dream.

    Peace, light and love..,

  9. I am not really a "what if" person. I recognize that I must make decisions. Sometimes I make the correct one and sometimes not. I guess I am a fatalist. Things work out the way they are supposed to work out.

  10. I've had a lot of "what ifs" in my life. My one "what if" is that I wonder what if our galaxy and all the other galaxies are mere atoms that make up something small in a bigger world. Like maybe a piece of furniture or an ash tray. It could happen.

  11. A wonderful read, and enjoyed the quotes. "What if?", I never really ask such a question.

  12. Hi Blogoratti - so many 'what if' possibilities ... we just need to face forward and deal with the now ... but lots of stories from the 'what if' scenarios ... cheers Hilary

  15. I often think of "what if?" I like to ponder possibilities while I continue with what is.

  16. Hi, my friend Blogoratti!

I enjoyed your thought provoking article about what-ifs. Countless variables, an infinitely complex formula, led to this moment, to reality as we are experiencing it. Indeed, circumstances are not reality. Our interpretation of circumstances, the meaning we attach to circumstances, is our personal reality and it might be very different from the reality experienced by someone else with identical circumstances.

A few weeks ago when I was hunkered down riding out Hurricane Irma, the eye of which passed very close to our house, it occurred to me that the great storm began as a single droplet of moisture halfway around the world. An exact combination of events needed to fall into place for that drop of rain to organize with others to form a cloud and then a storm, for the storm to grow powerful and for it to move all the way across the Atlantic following a track that brought it directly to us like a GPS system. One slight change in that formula might have made a dramatic difference somewhere along the line. How different would our world be if you or I had never been born? It is unknowable but a fascinating topic nevertheless.

Thank you very much, Blogoratti, and have a wonderful week!

  17. It would be nice to think we were something special in the universe, but there's no evidence that such is the case. Science has proven without a doubt how life on this measly little planet came to be. Random is the word, I believe. But that doesn't mean that life isn't worth living and/or we shouldn't be the best we can be for we have learned by experience that living in love and gratitude is what makes all the difference.

  22. I've been on a real life's journey, since 2012, and even before that. It's amazing how many things start to become clear, when you truly listen to the Universe. We all have a path to walk, and I just pray, everyone does it with love in their heart! Interesting read! Thank you!

It´s interesting that even in my unimportant life there are quite some "important" what-if-moments.

  27. When I was at university I worked for several years with severely mentally disabled young adults. Some had little apparent connection with the world around them. I used to wonder, "What if my reality isn't what I think it is either? Maybe I'm one of them and not actually working to help them."

  31. We moved when I was nine. I found it traumatic and for years, would wonder if it was a dream and if I'd wake back up in my old neighborhood. And wasn't there a philosopher who suggested we're all just a dream in God's mind?

  32. While "What if you were never born?" is a interesting question, there's no way of answering that. You can speculate all you want but all it is, speculation. It can make for an interesting puzzle but that's it. There are countless variables to consider. I know one thing if I were never born I wouldn't be able to make this comment. Ciao (I can't help it, I'm Italian.)

  34. That's very special that you live in the present. It's so easy to worry about the future and have regrets about the past, so living in the now is a good thing to do. It's nice to remember the past and tell stories to our children so they will know who their parents were. But living in the present is wise.

Thank you for the birthday wishes for Jess.
