Start Your Reading Year Off

Quote of the day:
There is only one corner of the universe you can be certain of improving, and that's your own self.
-Aldous Huxley

The new year is a great starting point to pick up on your reading. With the effect of the holiday season worn off, its definitely a great resolution to set the tone for the remainder of the year. Now, consistency is key in empowering your reading habit. You may have received book gifts so now is a good time to actually read each one, do not allow them gather dust on your bookshelf. Being busy is certainly no excuse, as seen with these six tips to help you read on a busy schedule, you can think of it as having a companion by your side, one that leads you on a special journey; seemingly weaving and riding high the waves of time.

Now without planning to, my reading this month has been mostly self help books which tend to be easier to read. I note a few key points in my mind, and go about the day and week initiating and expand upon each one. I believe the main point of a self help book is to steer you to a certain path, a rite of passage if you will, but it most certainly won't finish the journey for you unless you have the will to change. If you have the will to change, you will have the will to grow,

So what books are you reading right now, and what are your views on self help books? Do they have any lasting effect on you or inspire you to change in any way?

Books that I'm reading:

Author: Kerry Patterson, etc
Influencer : The Power to Change Anything by Kerry Patterson & Others

Author: Jen Sincero
You are a Badass: How to Stop Doubting Your Greatness and Start Living an Awesome Life

Have a splendid new week!

3 Things to Inspire Your Weekend #51

Quote of the day:
It is never too late to be what you might have been.
-George Eliot

There are some things in life that are never too late to undertake as long as there is time. Or better yet, its never too late to finally finish what you've started - in this case, the story of 94 year old Amy Craton, a great-grand mother and a fresh graduate, who put her education on hold in 1962 in order to return to work and take care of her children after a divorce. 50 years later, she's earned a Bachelor of Arts in Creative Writing and English -with a perfect 4.0 grade point average, from Southern New Hampshire University, US. She finally decided to complete her degree because it felt like the right time. Timing is certainly everything!

A mind is a terrible thing to waste, goes the saying. It certainly rings true in our daily lives and interactions. In India, 45yr old grocery store owner -Rajesh Sham gives back to his community by providing free education for slum children under a bridge, something he's done for the past 7 years, and with no seats or tables and a reliance on public support and donations only, he still manages to teach around 200 kids daily.

What I'm Really Thinking

Quote of the day:
Growth is never by mere chance; it is the result of forces working together.
-James Cash Penney

With the wave of the new year celebrations long washed away -apologies to those who are yet to take down their Christmas tree, there is a sense that the status quo will prevail which is why I've outgrown making resolutions. I've cut back on the secondary, and minor things and instead focused on the primary and essential.

What I'm really thinking now is how to live even more healthier, and treating my body with utmost respect. This goes with my mind too. I envisage creating more time for my advancement. The right time is always now. The path that we choose to follow has repercussions down the finish line. At some point one has to decide whether to run, stand still, crawl or walk.

The worst part is feeling the need to achieve something but not having the will to. And when this need rises to the surface, it attempts to drown everything else around. Will eventually turns to a way, and a change occurs, like a seed growing out from the soil -a result of many underlying factors often naked to the eyes. There will always be cause and effect. A ripple in the ocean causing waves thousands of miles away.

But we live and learn.
