An 8-year-old girl, Roxy Getter, has become the youngest girl to conquer Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. She achieved this with her dad Bobby and mom Sarah, including her 10-year-old brother Ben. Although she and her brother had a history of heart issues, they were cleared by a cardiologist before the trip. And even thought the entire trip was trying, Sarah said what they gained as a family could not have been replicated, and is especially a great lesson for the kids -to always keep going even when things get hard.

Every two weeks for the past 34 years, 58-year-old postman Marcus Perez of Texas, spends two hours donating blood at the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center. He donates platelets, which is a blood component that allows him to donate more often than if he were to donate whole blood or double red blood cells. He is also the fourth person in South Texas to pass the 100-gallon mark, saving thousands of lives in the process. Perez who was born a premature baby and required a blood transfusion, has been returning the favor over and over again.

Good news! Happy news!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
: )
The house is a bit austere, my furniture wouldn't look good in it. I'll have to buy completely new stuff when I move in.
ReplyDeleteGood for the blood/platelets donor chap.... I got up to about 75 blood donations and then I had to take blood thinners so they don't want me any more. I am a reject!
What an awesome exerience for that family. Himself has donated blood for the past 30 or so years as often as he can. Not sure if he's passed the 100 gallon mark yet.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
Have a great weekend, good Sir...
ReplyDeleteGreat stories, but 100 gallons of blood, that's over 800 pounds, WOW!
ReplyDeleteWhat inspiring articles today. Girl power is awesome! Good for Roxy.
ReplyDeleteKudos to Marcus. That's incredible, especially since I'm so afraid of needles and pass out when I have to give blood. That's one brave preemie.
You always find the BEST houses. I'm totally impressed. I adore modern with the clean lines and minimal furniture inside. People in glass houses are very special indeed.
I also love your quote of the day. It's what I believe, too. However, I've finally given up on perfection in my art and accepted I get what I get!
Thanks for getting the weekend started with these inspiring stories and photos.
Wow, makes me feel pretty lazy
ReplyDeleteThis post gave me a lift. Thanks, B!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brave family. Rather than refusing to live like invalids they (wisely with doctor approval) had an adventure.
ReplyDeleteThe wonderful man giving blood is a true hero.
The house made me think of the articles I read this week about the new solar panels being made by Tesla. They are predicting that these could provide enough electrical power for the world in a few years.
I am inspired B ☺ Hope you have a super weekend!
ReplyDeleteGreat post to end the week!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a safe, inspired weekend!!
Neat house. Shows what you can do, no matter the age. Giving back is a win indeed.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a lot of blood - whether just platelets or not!
ReplyDeleteI appreciate and enjoy seeing homes like these, but would not want to live in something where the interior was so visible. I would need blinds at night!
Thanks, B. Enjoy the remainder of the weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your visit to my blog

ReplyDeleteVery inspiring stories, the little girl climbing the mountain and the gentleman from Texas donating over 100 gallons of blood, not many people have that type of determination.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful thing for Marcus to do. He truly is thankful.
Not a house I would want to live in. : ) Too modern. I like cozy and warm.

Have a lovely weekend !
ReplyDeleteWow. An inspiration to a friend´s son who was born with a heart failure, too.
ReplyDeleteHe´s 12 years old now and cycling and swimming like crazy. Thanks science and medicine.
Sadly I cannot donate blood anymore. The last two times I was so weak for two weeks, I had to let go.
A beautiful house - at least we have real wooden floors, also.
Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for the inspiration.
Wow, what an achievement at just 8 years old - I can imagine the level to which the journey must have bonded their family!

The youngest of my brothers donates plasma each fortnight. I was a donor too until they slapped a lifetime ban on me.

A lovely collection of uplifting things here - loved this! And thank you for the kind comments on my blog too. - Tasha
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteI donate whole blood every two months. But platelets must be in short supply because they are trying to get me to do that too.
You know, I believe if you really want to, you'll be able to do anything. Why should age influence what it is... Thank you for your good energy, and your architect too, light and natural, both I love. Have a happy Sunday
