What It Means To Be Fashionably Late

Apparently "Fashionably late" is no longer in fashion. I mean in today's world lateness to just about every occasion is the in thing(or has been).

The other day I had scheduled a meeting for 2pm with a friend. Yes yes, she was female, and she turned up at least 15 minutes late with the usual "oh so sorry" statement. To say I was pissed was an understatement. But I let it go.

Later that day, I asked another female friend what was it that made people be late for every function imaginable -be it an interview,a date,a book launch,a party..whatever. She replied that "you know she's a lady, its what we do,we take time to look good and all".

Anyway  I've been reading up on lateness on the internet, and here's what i came up with.
Tell tale signs of lateness.

Do any of the following sound familiar?

  • You're always rushing at the last minute, even though you've promised yourself countless times that you wouldn't let this happen again.
  • You've tried setting your watch several minutes ahead, but you're still late.
  • You may be punctual for work (barely) but you're usually at least 20 minutes late for meetings, appointments, class, church, theatre or other non-work situations.
  • You make excuses, such as: "There was traffic, or Something came up," or "I was going to call you but I didn't want to be even more late."
  • People become impatient or angry at your tardiness.
  • You believe that you are more motivated when in a time crunch, or that you move faster under pressure.

If you can identify with two or more of the above, you have a problem with punctuality....i'm guilty too. lol.
