Quote of the day:
Experience had taught me that even the most precious memories fade with the passage of time.
-Nicholas Sparks
The other night I lay awake staring into almost pitch darkness, different shadows hiding behind curtains. It was the type of night where sleep is evasive and with no particular thought dominating my mind. I suddenly found myself awake -I tend to be more of a light sleeper who can't bear any distinct sound.
While staring into nothingness, I attempt to think of all those I've crossed paths with in life, and one thing I was quick to acknowledge is that those who left an impression on me were at the front of my imaginary line and self directed film with various actors. Cuts and edits, acts and frames, abstracts and 3-D visions. I recollect moments and events, most obscured due to the passage of time but its they made me feel that lingers on. From the teacher who believed in my abilities, to authentic friends who journeyed with me through thick and thin, and not to forget selfless and hardworking parents who went over and beyond to be supportive. The list is of course vast, and also includes individuals who work tirelessly to help shape the world into a much better place.
This got me thinking about making lasting impressions in life and being a positive influence to people. I always believe that showing kindness to everyone is one way to leave an impression -it shows a great deal of respect, and happiness which is usually contagious in more ways that we can ever imagine.
One day you will just be a memory to someone. Would you rather be a good or a bad one? Right now you are making the memories that you will have to live with later. Live, love, learn and repeat.
So the next time you are unable to sleep, reach into your memory store and reflect.
Peace. Love. Light*

Hi Blogoratti ... so true - we need to remember that when we go - and we never know when that will be - we don't want to depart this world with bad vibes around for everyone to remember ... being humble and helpful - would be two things essential for just being ...
ReplyDeleteCheers Hilary
Hi Hilary, yes indeed only if we could spend more time working on being positive and kind the world will be in a much better place. Thank you for taking time to stop by, much appreciated as usual!
DeleteDear Mr. Blogoratti...you are such a wise soul...
ReplyDeleteVery true until someone tries to take advantage of that kindness. Then I smile and walk away. Drama is not what any of us needs in our lives. Kindness works for me.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
Love and kindness both go a very long way. And patience.
ReplyDelete'Smile and the world smiles back' is a quote I read recently.
ReplyDeleteNice post.
Live every day as if it was the last. Some day it will be.
ReplyDeleteIt's an interesting choice. Shall I dredge up dormant memories and persons long forgotten or plan for the sunrise.
ReplyDeleteA doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes & went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy’s father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor. On seeing him, the dad yelled:
ReplyDelete“Why did U take all this time to come? Don’t U know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t U have any sense of responsibility?”
Th…e doctor smiled & said:
“I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital & I came as fast as I could after receiving the call…… And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”
“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would U calm down? If your own son dies now what will U do??” said the father angrily
The doctor smiled again & replied... Read more...
True words my dear. Kindness is such a beautiful virtue. Sometimes we get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, we worry so much and channel our energies towards material achievements....and in the course of all that we tend to forget to make a lasting impact in the lives of others through acts of kindness, love and compassion. Your posts are always great reminders. Thank you for this.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.
This quote got to me because I am thinking of my mom who's memories are disappearing. We are human so there are people who will have unkind memories but we need to do the best we can to be as kind to ourselves and the. To others. Once we can do our best to be kind to ourselves we can then truly be the best we can be to others. I would much rather be remembered as someone who has helped others, been there for others and made them smile
ReplyDeleteLovely post dear!True words...xx
ReplyDeleteGood thoughts! Regards, Valerie
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful post. You never know who will take away that good impression. I am a teacher and it surprises me what kids really connect with me. You just never know who it is going to be, so you need to make a best impression always. But be your self too! Happy weekend. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeletei dislike any glowing lights, or clocks ticking, i need quiet. no snoring. i love pure quiet. no neighborhood dogs or cats. or another critters. a quiet room .... nice! ( ;
ReplyDeleteI stopped by to thank you for visiting my blog and got caught up in yours. I especially appreciated the mini-tour of England.
ReplyDeleteOf course, these thoughts were especially poignant, because I've been reviewing a post I wrote four years ago on bullying. I applaud you for this thought provoking advice that definitely mirrors my own. It never hurts to be the kindest person you can possibly be.
I used to sleep like a log but as I age, I became a light-sleeper and sleep less too. Be the person what we want others to be.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your uplifting and insightful observations!
ReplyDeleteIt takes so little oftentimes to be kind even to strangers.
I offer my smile as a gesture of kindness at least everywhere I go.
Have a lovely weekend!
Our brain is a piece of work.
ReplyDeleteThanks dear :D
ReplyDeleteGreat reflection :)

A very thoughtful post ...
ReplyDeleteKindness being helpful to others are both good.
Let's do our best to leave good memories.
All the best Jan
sounds like a good advice :)
ReplyDeleteI often have sleepless nights and that is when the mind wanders to those places and people I've met in life. Our lives are a giant movie and we are constantly making memories. I think we learn in the journey so there may be a mixture of good and bad memories which is what creates the story. I choose the frequency of love as kindness goes a long way!
ReplyDeletePeace, love and light!
I, too often have sleepless nights but it seems when I am tired often the bad memories take over instead of the good memories. Still, I try to reach back and keep the more positive thoughts in my mind. The problem of aging, (I am in my 60s) is that some of the older memories just fade away and are very seldom thought of.
ReplyDeleteI love your comments about leaving a lasting positive impression on people. Kindness seems to be on the wain. Wish more people thought like you do.
What kind of memory would I rather be, a good or a bad one? I definitely want to be a good memory. Right now I spend every waking minute with loved ones making memories that will warm their hearts and bring a smile to their faces every time they think of me. I keep a pleasant face in public and say hello to strangers I pass by.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this inspirational post, I'm glad I made it by to read this today.
Loved this post. Hope you are doing well . My wishes to you . Take care .
ReplyDeleteLove that opening quote.
ReplyDeleteWe will someday fade away. What's important is leaving an important and good impact to those we interact with. The echo of our good deeds will stay.
Great thought
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting not only to read this post, but also all the comments that followed. I would hope that we would all like to leave favorable and lasting memories behind. Sadly, we will never know for sure as we will not be here to know. So, the best we can do is to do our best to be kind, patient and loving which admittedly is sometimes hard even with the best intentions.
ReplyDeleteWe would all love to be remembered by our deeds. True, action speaks louder than words :-)
ReplyDeleteJust stopping back by to see if you woke up from dreamland yet. Just kidding, came by to say hello and to wish you a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with Beatrice P. Boyd we have to do our best to our families, friends, children. etc, be kind to pets and all wild life around us. I love your post. Happy week!
ReplyDeleteWhat a deep and meaningful post! And so true.
ReplyDeleteLovely words.<333
ReplyDeleteI'm back on my blog...
So true! I'd rather leave people with nice memories. Sometimes it's hard to do, though.
ReplyDeleteMiss your positive posts! Hope all is well and that you are just doing other writing or good works. Sending good energy!
ReplyDeleteMiss seeing around, and hope you're doing well! In these days of Social Media, we can sometimes be quick to hit that send button for all to see that is less than kind. I agree, that It's better to be remembered for good works. Great words of wisdom! Hugs...RO
ReplyDeleteVery nice post, thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteI pray you're doing ok. I miss seeing the positive energy you provide the blogosphere. God is in charge.
