Musings of mine: Rambling Mind on This and That #9

Quote of the day:

I can calculate the motion of heavenly bodies, but not the madness of people. -Isaac Newton

A 12% Chance of Rain

A cursory glance at the weather app and it reveals a 12% chance of rain with cloudy skies. I'd assume to a cloud this wouldn't sound promising. The probability of supplying rain is cut to a minimum. No fanfare, no water fights, no frolicking with the wind, no thunder heard or lightening seen, and certainly no reason to laugh at humans dashing about in the rain, some with crooked umbrellas, others without a care in the world walking majestically in the rain-getting soaked is not for the fainthearted. But even the weatherman gets the weather wrong sometimes.

Can't Remember Not to Forget

Have you ever had a thought, a memory or flashback come at you right out of nowhere? I am talking about something from years and years back. No triggers or anything. Or better yet, have you ever had someone retell a story that involves you from like a decade ago, but for the life of you -you've got little recollection of. They relay back everything you did and said, even down to the clothes you wore, the wristwatch on your left hand, the month and time of day, putting in as much detail to try to paint this picture, to help put the jigsaw pieces back together in your mind, and when they finally ask 'do you remember now?', there's nothing greater in the world at that moment than saying a big NOPE.

Don't Be Late

Being late for something is bad enough. What could be worse than that you ask. Well here lets break it down. You see the same way the universe conspires to help you when you want something (think Paulo Coelho), is also the case for when you are late -it conspires to slow you down even further. All of a sudden traffic pops up on the otherwise free route, humans on footpaths turn to slow walking zombies, travelers pop up in front of you from the sky with heavy suitcases blocking your entire progression, and for added measure sprinkle a couple of tourists taking photos into the mix. The only thing that doesn't get slowed down when you are late is time -instead it accelerates. Although sometimes being late can't be helped, striving for punctuality is certainly better than fighting off zombies.

Rage Against Discounts

Who doesn't like a good discount? 50% off, screamed the signs at a shop, 75% off at another. But wait a minute shouldn't that have been the original price in the first place? They buy low and sell at a higher price (to put that in perspective, an iphone cost $200 to make and is sold for $600-$800). So technically it's not a discount really, and giving it away for free -now that's the real discount. But businesses exist to make profit bla bla bla. Don't get too excited about discounts now that you know their secret.

To The Friends Who Make Us Laugh

We all have some particular friends-or even best friends who are literally comedians, and if they would come to this life again -it would be as clowns working at a circus. They make you laugh a little louder than most, they find the humour in everything, and on some days when the world seems gloomy they shine a light through the fog. With silly one liners and jokes life would be boring without them Here's to the friends who tickle our senses. And if you have no such friends, here's a hint: It may just be you.

Peace. Love. Light*

  2. I am learning something about you!!! You are quite creative when you choose your topics each day!! : ))
I am the one retelling stories and one of my friends is the one who does not remember it at all.
However, four or five years ago, I met, at a family gathering, a friend I had not seen since we were single. He tried to make me remember how we danced so many times, and how we danced so well together. For the life of me I could not, and still can not remember the many times we danced. Well, being a bit egocentric, I do not think he was pleased to have been forgotten!! : )
As for sales/discounts – going to the States to do some shopping is a real treat. They have discounts on top of discounts basically all year round.
What I don’t understand is when I can buy a book with a 20% discount the very same day it was launched.
Great post!!! Have I already expressed my opinion?! : ))
    Greetings

    1. Alas, I learn stuff about myself daily -I am not sure if that's a good thing or not. Yes memory is so fickle, it comes and goes, the worst thing is running into someone and trying to remember their name. As for discounts, well the secret is out there and THEY know that WE know.

Yes Catarina, you have greatly expressed your thoughts :)

  3. I like to make people laugh, so that would be me, but I love friends who make me laugh to.
I have had several stories told to me from my past that I have no memory of and I have told memories to the same person and she has no memory of it. I am thinking we remember things because they were really good or really bad, and their memory stored it because it meant something and it meant noting to us so we let it go.
I find when I am on time, nothing gets in my way, the lights turn green as I approach, there are no drivers in my way... be a few minute late and every light will be red and I will be driving with every slow driver on the planet. great post

    1. Aha, I knew you'd be the fun of the party. I kid, I kid. But its nice that you make others laugh and vice versa. Memory is too fickle to rely on these days, sigh. I can relate with the lateness thing, the universe is at fault no question about that. Greetings to you.

  4. 12% chance of rain? Ha Ha, it most likely means no chance or a chance in H--- of seeing any rain. No idea how they come up with % as the wind could change, etc. Unless it is actually raining, I never believe them.
Other people's memories about me - Once in a while I have no clue, especially if it has been years. They do tend to get upset if you can't recall the occasion, as if they aren't important enough for you to remember. I had a friend who related some night we went out and supposedly had a great time - 40 years ago. I'm sure I just stuffed that night's memories in my file 13.
Even going out of business sales - you have to watch and be informed!

    1. I know right, the percentages just seem like overkill. Sometimes they say expect rain, and voila its sunny skies all through. And yes people can get sulky when you don't remember their story, tsk tsk.
Going out of business sales, that's a good story for another post. Hmmm...

      Thanks for sharing and greetings.

  5. Lately, I can't seem to remember anything. Long-term. Short-term.Just on the tip of my tongue with a blank stare. And late? Early is on time. On time is late, and late is no excuse. I did remember that old chestnut. :-D

    1. I know that feeling. Standing still in the middle of the room you just entered without a clue as to why you ended up there, for example. Late is no excuse, well cheers to that.

  6. I just had that happen! My husband was relating something to me from 30 years ago that I should be able to remember.... but I don't. Not even an inkling! It's a bit disconcerting. I do enjoy those times a good memory from the past comes flooding back. :)

  7. I didn't remember watching a movie with a friend several years ago. He reminded me of how pleased he was that I liked the movie. I had to get the movie from Netflix and watch it again before I remembered it.

  9. I firmly believe that the weather prognosticators need to use a cricket-like in the Beverly Hillbillies.
Yeah, I'm usually the one trying to pry a memory out of someone else. Except for my brother George. Who remembers E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. Some things, I wish he'd forget. Just sayin'.
I HATE being late. And all of the above. That is all.
Free is my only discount. But then, I'm not a shopper. What's with that?!
And lastly: My husband and I often laugh about how competitive we are.
    But I laugh more.
    Loved this post, B!

  10. A forecast for a 12% chance of rain is not as aggravating as being told I am in the midst of a thunderstorm when the sun is shining, birds are singing, and the temperature makes me long for rain. The rain never comes and I am left disappointed.

  11. I do not know what I would do without my friends who make me laugh!

I have definitely experienced someone else giving me a play by play of something that happened (when I was involved) and yet I had no recollection. Crazy!

    Have a great day. :)

  23. Just had an argument not too long ago about this. I did not know something. Someone else said I did. She insisted that I had to have known this information, and she listed all the things I should have known. That I didn't. Memory is funny.

  28. 1. 90% chance of rain... and then it doesn't. There's that 10%. A great help.
    2. Memory is fascinating. I have a great (or not) memory for things that happened, when, where, what was worn, 40 years ago. And then, "Remember when we went to Virginia Beach with so and so?" and I haven't got a clue. 3. I hate being kept waiting. Fine, if you're loose about time and don't like to be wedded to a clock, but don't tell me to be somewhere and then leave me hanging for an hour. Like, meeting for dinner at 9 and showing up at 10. 4. Was shopping yesterday. An upscale store was having a 50% sale. Wow. Casual cotton shorts, half price! I found a pair I liked. €77. Even at 50% off, I thought that was a bit steep for what I was looking at. Then I noticed, €77 was WITH the discount. 5. I love to laugh. It can change the tone of an entire day.

  29. love the smiley faces. so so cute!! we need rain. i love it when a thought sometimes to mind ... i watched a program about that once ... how much of that info stuck in my mind not tons ...but for some reason our minds associate certain events as being similar and then we say they are like deja vu, but really they are not. kind of interesting ... wish i could recall the name of the program ... so wanna watch again to fill in the missing pieces in my mind. got a cold would be a great day to do that. take care. 30. Memory is a funny thing. I have a much clearer memory than a childhood friend of mine, but he has remembered something that is pretty well a blank for me. They say the only real memories you have are times to which emotions are attached.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Most of the time I can figure out what triggers those flash memories from the past. usually some other stray thought or a song or something. Not always though.

  32. I love a good rain, esp in summer - it´s predicted for 5 in the arvo, so far it´s still sunny, though.
Haha, the "big NOPE" sure made me laugh, thanks :-)
I think some people just want to be cheated, no one with a clear mind can really believe in a 70% discount...

  35. My memory isn't as good as it used to be. But I think a lot of it is selective because there are things I remember as though they happened yesterday and that was 40 years ago! Then, something that happened a month ago, poof! Gone from my memory lol!

  44. I was blown away by your thoughts today. I try never to be late, but am often the first to arrive somewhere. I have few friends who are funny. I am of British descent, and don't "get" American humor for some reason. I've always been suspicious of discounts, so I seldom pay much attention unless I know the exact price I would have to pay without the discount.

Thanks for sharing these words of wisdom while laughing in the rain.
