During the past week I picked up John Grisham's 'Gray Mountain' book -if there's anything as a slow page turner then this book is it, and after reading six chapters it didn't grab me so I discontinued reading in favour of the next book in the Archer series. I may come back to it after finishing the series -the 3rd book in Jeffrey Archer's griping family saga, The Clifton Chronicles.

Great reading choice as I really enjoy Archer's writing and have all the books in the Clifton series
ReplyDeleteRecentky, I read a couple more of James Patterson's books, Private Down Under and Private India Burning. Both are fast reads as are most of his works, even if not especially memorable. The most recent book I read is 52 Loaves, which coincidentally I posted about today and would recommend.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree those who love good music are the happiest of people even though 'good music' is relative. I remember passing a local pub some time ago and I saw some young men dancing - they didn't appear high and that didn't even matter but the fact that they could take a moment to dance and forget the world. What peace!

I am glad you put aside your slower moving book for this book series you seem to be enjoying. This one sounds awesome. There are so many amazing books in this world, so I have learned to not waste my time on a book I am not loving (sometimes I will try it again at a later date if I am just finding it okay- to see if my mood is different). :)

The second book sounds very good... I'm so disappointed to hear the John Grisham book is so boring... I usually enjoy his books... Have a great week :-)

I'm rereading an oldie 'Out of Africa" by Isak Dinesen. Its has such beautiful images of Kenya back in the 1920s. Sorry your other book didn't work out but at least you have moved onto better. I have put this series on my to be read list, so thanks for the suggestion.

ReplyDeleteI just finished The White Spider of Savignac. What a wonderful book. I swear the author's sense of place is as well written as anything on the best seller's list. I was inspired to write when I finished. Write well.
ReplyDeleteI just finished Natural Radience by Lama Surya Das and am now reading The Handmaid's Tail, by Margaret Atwood. Quite a contrast. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm like you, if a book doesn't hold my attention I read the ending and decide whether to continue. Almost put down Perfect by Rachel Joyce but after reading the end decide to plow on. Overall not as good as her first, the one about Harold Fry. Heard of it? Now reading one that I was on a waiting list forever. It's the annotated autobiography or Laura Engles Wilder. A picture into pioneer life in US in late 19th century. The book itself is not long but the introduction and all the explanatory footnotes make it a tome. Hope to finish it today.

Sounds like an exciting trilogy. I'm reading Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman and listening to Little, Big by John Crowley. They're both phenomenal if you're into fantasy, that is ;) Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading 'Sins of The Father' in this series and decided to take a break and read something else for a few days, so I'm presently reading 'Death Cure' by James Dashner. It's also a continuation of a series. As soon as I'm done with it, I'll be starting 'Best Kept Secret' to continue the story of Harry Clifton. I'm one step behind you in this interesting, fast-paced series!

Hi Blogoratti! I'll have to check out the Jeffrey Archer series! I'm currently reading "The Orenda" by Joseph Boyden. He's a Canadian author, and he has written three very different books about Canada's native people. All excellent and unforgettable. Have a good one!

ReplyDeleteI am still on Jonathan Kellerman's 'Therapy'. It's good but it took a while to get used to his writing style. I find it difficult making the decision to stop reading a book halfway through but in some cases it has to be done.
