Quote of the day:
I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.
-Michelangelo
1. The Watcher
I watch people.
...Silently.
I imagine things in my head about them. Instinctively, the first being their origin. I try to piece together their faces, hair texture, and accent. And then I start with my guessing game. If I happen to overhear their name though, it cuts the game time down considerably. If not, things get more interesting. Different people with different faces. We all walk past one another each day, like ants scrambling around for food.
In the end when my eyes connect with someone, those two seconds of silent stillness...if time was slowed down to a sort of slow motion replay, two seconds may end up being like eternity.
2. Nails of Steel
Do you ever have that feeling about your nails growing longer for no reason? One minute its all cut nicely and trim, and the next its all grown back- like weeds springing forth in the most unlikely places.
What use is of these fingernails and toenails, except to scratch one's back and itchy regions of the body. What use are they, if not to peel off annoying things or have people ask you for help -just because: "you've got long nails, can you assist with peeling off this label please?".
3. Ringtones & Drones
A ringtone says a lot about one's personality. Especially the volume at which it is set. If its too loud, and you don't have hearing problems -you are impassioned and insensitive. This personality mirrors other things. In my mind's eye I can picture this clearly, like a drone flying with precision. A man in a notable outfit makes a show of answering his phone, gesturing with his manicured fingers and conversing in a loud voice. Ten feet away I look on as he gets into his car and drives off with loud music blaring. The torment of his ringtone, fading into insignificance.

ReplyDeleteMy phone is usually muted. When it's not, my ringtone is from the computer game Starcraft.
ReplyDeleteThese phrases about a ringstones is really great and real...

You are so right about annoying ringtones!
ReplyDeleteoooooooooooooh, LOVE your current listen! I saw brother ray in concert live - FABULOUS! there will never be another like him.
ReplyDeleteI too like to people watch - who they are, what they do, where they are from, etc.
I know that last guy and there are a bunch of them running around. Self important and they want you to know that. Bless their hearts.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
Interesting thoughts and a lovely quote.
ReplyDeleteYou are sensitive and observant, and therefore learn and know more. . .

Aaah, Ray Charles... What a musician!! One of the greatest, I think.
ReplyDeleteSome years ago, I wrote about the brief glimpses into other people's eyes that can contain so much here and here. It would be interesting to know your opinion to these two older posts of mine.
Finger and toe nails grow much faster in spring and summer, because we tend to spend more time out in daylight which supplies our bodies with more vitamin D, which in turn boosts nail growth... I never keep mine long because I type nearly all day. Also, getting into my clothes in the morning (think tights and stockings) would be difficult with very long nails!
The inconsiderate noisemakers are among the worst characters. They seem to think the world revolves around them - well, THEIR world certainly does, but not mine, and I do not want to be forced to listen to whatever ringtone, conversation or music is coming from them.
Ring theory.
ReplyDeleteOh I had a good laugh.
ReplyDeleteI watch people too.
And I also have come to the conclusion that a ring tone tells a lot about the personality of the bearer.
I do not like the hard noise ... soft and pretty is lovely! :)
ReplyDeleteMy phone is always low! :))
You have reminded me... my nails need cutting.. smiles.
ReplyDeleteAuthors practice people-watching. One time I watched a woman on a train and it led to a two-part story.
I love people-watching too, and imagining their lives as they pass by. :-)
ReplyDeleteHello, I love the quote and I love to people watch. Most times my phone is on vibrate and I do not even know I had a call. OOOPS. Great post, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day out there...I love the musing plus great quote..

Love that tune and played it a lot when I was about to retire...:)
ReplyDeleteThe worst is the baby toe-nail. I keep trimming mine, because they grow up and not straight. They're so tiny, they know not where to go. Do you think they'll eventually go extinct and humans will be four-toed, Blogoratti?
ReplyDeleteHave a nice week.
I am always cutting mine and everybody nails because I don't want them 'housing' germs in it. It is a weekend 'tradition' in my home. I cut them too short that my kids and hubby complain! ahahaha.
ReplyDeleteI don't like loud talking on phones in public places. At times, the connection might be bad, especially with international calls. In such scenario, I tell them to call back or chat instead.
It is exciting to watch people, to either learn a thing or two. Infact, I believe we all watch each other, how else can we describe one's traits or features, or how a person walked or clothes they were putting on ?
My substitute name for cell phones is holler phones. ... WHAT?!
ReplyDeleteI've always really liked that Michelangelo quote.
ReplyDeleteWell seen and written, Blogoratti_!
ReplyDelete__Drone, has now become a metaphore: they, that are controlled by a ring tone. _m
I am a people watcher too and my ringtone is usually loud and I am not insensitive, just that I work in a noisy environment.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful week.
Interesting musing....Have a delightful day!
ReplyDeleteExcellent post (as always)!
ReplyDeleteAre you the dude sitting at the corner bench at central park. not fiddling with his phone but looking at people as they go by?
ReplyDeleteMy phone is loud because otherwise I can't hear it.
ReplyDeleteLove your musings.
Nice, Blogoratti, the observation skill can take you in a couple directions:writer, artist, actor, psychic... The nails made me smile, since I never have a long one, musician's habit ....Loud sound....hmmmm....not any more....smiles.

ReplyDeleteGreetings.
Being a watcher on the world allows you to see the little things..and life is al about the little things as you have adeptly demonstrated here...
ReplyDeletesmiles.. long nails are nice for playing guitar as well
ReplyDeletei love that michelangelo quote you start this with - we need trained eyes to see the potential of people even if it's hidden at times
Seeing much can sure keep us in touch with what is going on
ReplyDeleteThat's why I loved living in NYC--people watching. When you get that much variety in one place, the imagination goes wild.
ReplyDeleteI people watch too. I wonder sometimes if my path will ever cross again with the people I see. Would I recognize them if that did happen?
ReplyDeleteThank you especially for the quote!

Loved that Michelangelo quote, Blogoratti! I often think when I pass a stranger that I'll never see him or her again. It reminds me how chance-filled and ephemeral life is. Hope you're having a happy week!
ReplyDeleteYour musings are ... amusing. ;-) (Couldn't resist.)
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteInteresting musings.
ReplyDeletei love Ray Charles' music. so happy & fun. i love people watching. you see so many unique fun folks. ringtones are funny. i have some unique ones for my family & hubby. my normal ring for folks who call changes all the time. to funny, makes you wonder? ( :
ReplyDeletePeople watching can be so intriguing. One learns a lot, educational in fact! Have no quarrels with nails. But ring tones, yes! They reflect the person's personality
ReplyDeleteHank
Point 1 - I do it too.
ReplyDeletePoint 2 - I'm a woman who loves long nails, so thankfully they grow :) And I like them - even if sometimes I wish they were growing slower ;)
Point 3 - oh yes, I don't like loud ringtones either. I don't like when people speak too loud either, unless they have problems with ears.
I never heard that Michelangelo quote before and it's brilliant. I've sometimes wondered about nails too.
ReplyDeleteGreat quote! I am definitely a people watcher too. I just find people fascinating and it is fun to imagine what they are thinking or where they are going. :D
ReplyDeleteI am not a ringtone kind of girl, but I understand what you mean about the nails. Lol!
ReplyDeletelaughing at your #2. i've always had good natural nails and have been asked to remove labels, staples, etc. :)
