Sara Fleming from St.Louis has donated her kidney to a mother in Maryland, Akiba Allen, after reading about her story online. At 17, doctors diagnosed Akiba with lupus and she has suffered from Raynaud's disease, pericarditis and most recently, kidney disease. According to Sara, "If I needed a kidney, or one of my loved ones did, and we weren't a match for each other, I would have to rely on a stranger to help us out," Sara said. "How could I expect somebody else to do that if I'm not willing to do it myself?

Fifteen strangers have banded together to help an elderly man fix the roof on his house. David Perez of Fremont, California took matters into his own hands after watching his 75 year old neighbor trying to fix his roof for months. He took a photo and sent out a Facebook message asking for help from anyone with roofing skills. In the end, 15 people showed up to work on the roof, with many others donating food and drinks.

I love these stories. Great way to begin my day! Thank you.
ReplyDeleteIs that a pool on top of the roof?
ReplyDeleteBoth stories are great. It's like when our church puts out a call for people to help, it's amazing how many show up.
Wow, those stories are truly inspiring and that house is simply beautiful, have a great weekend.

Awesome! as always thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat bunch of people coming together to fix the roof. Perhaps the house owner is the white haired man wearing the lilac shirt.
ReplyDeleteThis blog mate has had the tests and ready to donate a kidney to a perfect stranger. http://thehesitantscotsman.blogspot.com.au/ A close friend who had lupus received a donor heart when hers failed and nearly ten years later, she is still with us.
ReplyDeletePuts me to shame, this. All I ever donate is money. Ok, twice a year I do volunteer work for an organization that helps women in Bangladesh, but that's about it. I am far too comfortable in my egoism.
ReplyDeleteLove this collection! Thank you!
ReplyDelete@Aisling: Thanks for visiting!
ReplyDelete@Alex J. Cavanaugh: I'm not sure that's a pool, probably just some parts of a neighbor's roof. It is amazing indeed how people came out to help. Many thanks!
@Titola Sogunro: Hello and its so kind of you to stop by, really appreciate it, thank you!
@Highly Favored: Hello and thanks for visiting!
@Gwil W: Yes I do believe that's the house owner somewhere in the middle, great stuff indeed. Many thanks for your visit!
@Andrew: That's wonderful to hear. Greetings to you and best wishes!
@Librarian: It sounds like you are doing the little that you can do, and I do admire you for that. Thanks for sharing and nice to have you here!
@Chris Lally: Hello and thanks for visiting!
The world could take a lesson from this. Help others.

ReplyDeleteAlways so fascinating to read your inspiration posts. I want one of those share the spare shirts. I will have to look this up. And I wonder what the rest of that Thailand house looks like?
ReplyDeleteThere are so many wonderful people around the world. These are the stories we should be hearing about in the news, but alas we get all the doom and gloom stories. This post rocks.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day. ☺
So there is still some good in the world... makes me very happy to read about good samaritan.
ReplyDeleteOne thing bothers me though. If I gave away a kidney and was left with just one, and that one turned out to be useless... how would I feel then?
they re lots of kind peeps around
ReplyDeleteSTALKER ALERT
What do you know... 5 people showed up to work on the roof, with many others donating food and drinks. You're slowly but surely restoring my faith in the human race. I'm now a lighter shade of blue.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend.

It's wonderful to see there are still good and generous people in the world because according to the news, everyone's a killer, thief, or terrorist. Or worse, a politician. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI love your two uplifting stories - people, being wonderful - and what a very long house, for your third offering. Thanks so much!

I love the quote that you used because I think it applies to me right now. I've been going through so many self-discoveries, that sometimes, I wonder why I make the choices that I've made. While I beat myself up for it, I can't help but think that maybe, it's meant for the best... to grow and to learn.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely weekend!

ReplyDeleteI love the first two stories, especially the lady who donated a kidney to a stranger. My mom and grandma both had kidney transplants, so it's nice to hear when people are willing to help!
