In the event that I have no book to fall back on to read, I've taken the liberty to stock up on several titles, at least to forestall any lack of reading material.
In case you've somehow missed it, I'm currently reading titles by Japanese author-Haruki Murakami, his style is melancholic and evocative, with a distinct form and structure in his narration.

'Dance Dance Dance', follows this same style. Although part of a trilogy, it is also a self-contained book. It follows the story of an unnamed protagonist who makes his living as a commercial writer. He is compelled to return to an hotel where he once stayed with a love interest, who has since disappeared without a trace. Experiencing dreams, he goes back to this hotel to find her, and an entire adventure ensues...

I've just finished Joanna Macy's Widening Circles, her memoir. What an interesting life she led, her travels took her to India, Africa, Tibet, leading her to Buddhism and her environmental work. Her closing chapters about the dangers of nuclear reactors had deep impact on me, as I learned what I had been trying not to think about - eg the fact that one spot where they store spent radioactive rods is on a spot that is seismically and volcanically active. Yikes.

i love Ella Fitzgerald's music, gorgeous voice. i had heard that records are really taking off again ...i was watching a new report about a record factory getting back & running again. so cool. i loved them as a kid. have a nice day!! take care. ( :

ReplyDeleteJust finished The Rising by Ryan D'Agostino. Not my usual type of reading material at all. It's about three murders and an attempted murder in Connecticut, in 2007. It is a real-life crime, which only the father survived - his two daughters and wife died.
ReplyDeleteWhat drew me to the book was Mr. D'Agostinos sympathetic writing style and the emphasis on the power of community, faith, and keeping on with trying to do the right thing.

ReplyDeleteMurakami's book What I Talk About When I Talk about Running is the only one of his I have read. It was most enjoyable. I'm a runner and I suspect he and I will be roughly the same age, so I kind of identified with a lot of it.
ReplyDeleteMy new book to read is Franz Kafka's The Castle. Yesterday I saw a theatre piece on Kafka, quotes from his letters turned into a short play, so I was in the mood to begin reading it again. I failed the first time, got maybe half way through. See how it goes.
I have just finished The Other Daughter by Lisa Gardner. I am not reading a Stuart Woods novel. I like a good suspenseful mystery.
