New Year, Old You

Quote of the day:
when the wind is perfect, the sail just needs to open and the world is full of beauty. Today is such a day.

A resolution is a decision, an aim, and or dedication to a specific cause. How many resolutions does one have to make with each passing year? And how long can each be sustained? In the new year we start off in a run, only to not finish the race in the end. As a result, the first few weeks are highly productive. Join a gym, yes. Kick a habit, double yes. What then happens? We lose steam. Life can be said to be essentially the sum of all our habits put together.

In the past when I tried to stick to resolutions, it took patience and hard work. I found a better way which involves making weekly or monthly goals instead -making it easier to track and monitor my progress, to develop and grow quickly.

As we acquire new habits and get rid of old ones, putting things in perspective becomes inevitable. In conclusion, waiting for the year to end before making resolutions may not be the best way for growth to happen. Dissect the year into months, weeks and days if you can, and make plans accordingly. In the new year, I hope your dreams and goals all come to pass.

Here's to the new year.
Here's to great accomplishments.
Happy 2016!

Happy Holidays!

Quote of the day:
Love never dies a natural death. It dies because we don’t know how to replenish its source. It dies of blindness and errors and betrayals. It dies of illness and wounds; it dies of weariness, of witherings, of tarnishings.
-Anaïs Nin

Plans For The Week (37)

Quote of the day:
There is more to life than making a living. Do not work more than you live.
-Mokokoma Mokhonoana

New beginnings are great in that we get the chance to start over. As the year wraps up in less than two weeks, there is a sudden urge for closure and finality -which anyone never seem to achieve. So when you have your quiet time, when you look back at all that you have missed, along the way, you can be rest assured that starting afresh has its rewards. I'm not one for making resolutions, so I am sticking to just living life for the moment.

Here are some of my plans for the week.

1. Continue work on my writing project.
2. Buy pending gifts.
3. Make donations.
4. Read a new book.
5. Workout twice during the week.
6. Treat myself.
7. Reflect on my journey so far.
8. Dream bigger.

There goes my plans. Have a fantastic week and happy holidays!

Michael Jordan, has donated to 23 non-profit organizations that improve the lives of youths in Chicago -with his victory in a court of law in the city. He recently won $9 million from a settlement case with a supermarket chain that used his likeness without his permission years ago. Jordan said in a statement “The 23 charities I’ve chosen to make donations to all support the health, education and well-being of the kids of Chicago. Chicago has given me so much and I want to give back to its kids-the city’s future.”

A 99 year old, Donna Goldstein, won a shopping spree at a 99 Cents Only store outside Beverly Hills, California, U.S.A. But instead of splurging on goods that day -which fell on her birthday, she decided to load up on stocking gifts for kids in need instead.

What I'm Reading Right Now (25)

Quote of the day:
You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop. -Rumi

There are a few books that can be read over and over again, and one of such is what I am reading this week. It is by Lebanese author Kahlil Gibran  and titled 'The Prophet'. It contains a collection of 26 poetic essays and was written way back in 1926. It is a book that I have read a few times in the past -and is indeed a true classic.

It tells the story of a prophet-Almustafa, who has waited for 12 years for a ship to return him to his home. And just before he departs, he imparts knowledge to a group of people, discussing such matters as; love, self-knowledge, friendship, pain, and so on.

It certainly is a delight to read over and over again.

What books are you currently reading?

Plans For The Week (36)

Quote of the day:
Though nobody can go back and make a new beginning... Anyone can start over and make a new ending. -Chico Xavier

Becoming a better person is not a day's job. Neither is it a week, a month or even an entire year's work. It is a work in progress and spans our entire lifetime. Looking back at this year, my spirits are lifted, my inner peace elevated, and my dreams aligning like stars in the sky. I am still a work in progress, on this self improvement journey. I am passionate about growth, and I am always looking for new ways to do things.

Here are some of my plans for this coming week.

1. Plan for success in the coming year.
2. Practice self improvement and enlightenment daily.
3. Take a break to have fun and relax.
4. Wake up earlier than usual to meditate, plan, reflect.
5. Get rid of stress and patterns that lead to it.
6. Read a new book.
7. Continue working on my wiring project.
8. Do things at the right time.
9. Live simply and self improve daily.
10. Dream even bigger.

Have you made your plans yet? Its the start of a new week, its filled with new opportunities to improve on things, and to show kindness to everyone you meet. Do have a joyful week ahead!

Peace and love always*

Musings of mine: Rambling Mind on This and That #4

Quote of the day:
Perhaps man has a hundred senses, and when he dies only the five senses that we know perish with him, and the other ninety-five remain alive.
-Anton Chekhov

1. A Million Exits

To dream of a faraway place where nothing matters. Only the beating of the heart. New emotions coming to life, old thoughts fading away like footprints in the rain. As we become dim, with time, and lose our illumination, perhaps dreaming will suffice. Love does not have to flee or be blind. A million exits, and the heart only seeks one each time.

To seek for something is to be free. The ladder of life goes both ways -ascending and descending. Our inner being drifts above and below. Love can annoy or satisfy, awaken or put you to sleep eternally. The beginning is the end. The end is the beginning. To dream of a faraway place where everything matters.

2. For All Its Worth

Opportunities don't often come along, but when they do -people will try to milk them for all their worth. And if its newsworthy, even better as a big scramble will ensue to see how far and how long the stories can be used. Opportunities come in different forms, and will always mean different things to different individuals.

3. Resemblance

You will always have people compare you to someone the know, or used to know. It's inevitable. There will always be someone out there with striking similarities to ours -appearance, mannerism and all. We can perceive the same with certain people. A resemblance that never ends.

Plans For The Week (35)

Quote of the day:
May you live every day of your life. -Jonathan Swift

Leaves fall, the earth orbits, seasons change, and life goes on. As the days pass me by, as everything seems fast forwarded -like a time lapse video, I notice one glaring thing about myself. The fact is I have changed, as so has the world and people around me. A question I often ask people is 'What's new with you?'...a simple question but one that can tell you a lot about someone. At least if nothing else is new, we wake up to the brightness of a new day.

Here are some of my plans for the week.

1. Reflect on my journey through life.
2. Exercise my body and mind.
3. Give to the needy and show kindness to everyone.
4. Analyse my personal finances.
5. Read something new.
6. Make lists for the holiday season.
7. Treat myself.
8. Attend a networking event.
9. Keep dreaming big.

Have you made your plans yet? Here's wishing you a great new month ahead.

Peace always*

A US man, Tony Berard, who rides his bike down a busy highway to work the midnight shift at a local grocery has been rewarded with a new car. He was offered a ride by Jason Kapoor who was driving on the opposite side. He later found out that Tony was having financial problems due to taking care of his sick wife and they couldn't afford to repair their car or buy a new one. Jason later raised a GoFundMe page that amassed donations of $19,000, which was used to buy a minivan for Tony.

A Syrian refugee, 33-year old Abdul Halim al-Attar who was photographed selling pens in the streets of Beirut with his daughter on his shoulder, now runs three businesses in the city. This was after an online crowdfunding campaign in his name collected $191,000.  Two months ago, the father of two opened a bakery and has since added a kebab shop and a small restaurant to his business venture -and he employs 16 Syrian refugees.
