Not All Debts Are Equal (You Owe No one)

Quote of the day:
An honest man is a debtless man, he doesn't owe anyone anything.
Amit Kalantri

We are all debtors in life- we've all but walked down the dark path of being indebted to an individual or institution- tied down till the last repayment is squeezed out. But as soon as one debt is payed, a new one arises.

Sometimes we get chased by debtors, and other times we do the chasing. If you've ever given out a loan and had to practically fight to get it back, you'd understand. But I digress...

In essence there are always debts to be repaid. You may owe people or vice versa, but you don't owe anyone for living the life that you have chosen for yourself. You owe it to yourself to be a success, to dream, to fall down many times and get up as many times too. You don't owe anyone for the path that you have chosen, the goals that you have set...you owe no one any explanation on your looks, religion, taste, your sex life, your honesty, your race, your passions and life experiences.

We are all debtors in life. But there are some debts we don't owe.

  1. I can't even begin to express how profoundly this amazing post has touched me...it is as if your words have given me permission to be exactly who I am - without owing anyone any explanations or excuses for just being me.
Thank you...thank you so much! :)

  2. Well said. I absolutely hate to be in debt for anything, and hate even more to have a loan out that doesn't get paid promptly, especially when you can see that money is being spent unwisely instead.

  3. @Ygraine: With profound gladness, I'm very glad that you were able to take something away from my post. I applaud you for that. Best wishes always!

@Linda Kay: I know that feeling, its the worst thing to be in debt and also to have a loan that isn't paid promptly. It's all part of life's lessons I guess. Thanks for visiting!

  12. I only loan as much money to a friend that would not hurt me to lose. I think of it as a gift that if it gets paid back that's great but I'm not going to get snotty if it doesn't. I also don't loan much out tough.

  14. I hate feeling like I owe anyone anything, so I'm as independent as I can be. Sometimes I meet someone with an entitlement mentality who asks too much of me, and I have to cut them off. I'm not as generous as I used to be, because there is a law of reciprocity in social interactions and I hate being used.

  15. It's not easy being on either side of debt. Many friendships are lost because of it. Your last line speaks volumes.

  16. WORDS OF LIFE-"We are all debtors in life...but some debts we don't owe" I absolutely owe no one for the life I live, except my thanks and gratitude to God.

However, some debts are not necessarily cash so repaying them takes forever. How do you know when to draw the line?

@Oyinlola Sobowale: It is true that some debts are not financial, and repayments may take forever-which is fine, as debts take various forms. But knowing when to draw the line is an act that must come from within, when the time comes-your inner self and conscience will prevail. Hope that helps!
