What I'm Reading Right Now (17)

Quote of the day:
Books are mirrors, you only see in them what you already have inside you.
-Carlos Ruiz Zafón

With all things being equal, the books that I've read should amount to about 30 by the end of the year. I am hoping for more, but that number is as feasible as it gets.

For me, its convenient to read several books by the same author over a period. Once you stumble on an author who captivates, its easier to devour book after book after that. Which is why for the week I have settled on another book by Japanese author Haruki Murakami titled 'Kafka on The Shore'.

In his usual poetic style, Murakami excels with unusual plot lines and characters with this dual narrative. It's a story about Kafka Tamura, who runs away from home at age fifteen -under the shadow of his father's dark prophesy. The book is filled with parallel events and characters. Another main character, is Nakata, an elderly man who at a young age is rendered mentally defective and later develops an ability to talk to cats.

It all makes for fine and deep reading, and its enjoyable so far.

What books are you reading at the moment?

Happy October!

  7. These Japanese books sound so interesting. Last time a read a book by a Japanese author I had a lot of trouble getting into it, so maybe I should try a new author! I am reading the Girl in the Spider Web, which is a continuation of the Millenium series by Steig Larsson. Not as good as the first 3 books but still not a bad read. Keep on reading!

  12. Happy October to you too! I hope to get to 30 books plus in a year. I'm presently reading about the civil war in America, just grew an interest in it. I have to combine the autobiography of Abraham Lincoln and a novel about a black American boy by Richard Bright.

  24. Still overburdened with Jonathan Franzen's 'Kraus Project'. It's still around here somewhere. Yesterday I thumbed through Michael Moore's 'Dude Where's my Country?' for some light relief. I just found the Franzen, it crept onto my elbow and nudged me. So back to that.

  39. Love the title. So similar to a favorite musical composition, "Molly on the Shore" by Percy Grainger --a combination of Irish reels. So maybe there's a structural similarity too. Will watch for the book, thanks!
