What I'm Reading Right Now (24)

Quote of the day:
Get outside. Watch the sunrise. Watch the sunset. How does that make you feel? Does it make you feel big or tiny? Because there's something good about feeling both.
-Amy Grant

Most of the reading I've done during the past week includes magazines, newspapers, a study guide, and of course one or two unfinished books -unfulfilled endings due to separate factors. During the course of the new week my hope is to collect new titles to keep my mind active till the end of December at least.

Presently, I am reading 'The Wind-up Bird Chronicle', again by Haruki Murakami. Its a long read, filled with different stories revolving around a protagonist named Toru Okada who lives a mundane life feeling detached and alienated -until he finds himself and everything around him transformed. As the story develops, a lot of bizarre and mysterious occurrences occur -its a gripping book from the first line, and hard to put down.

  1. I am not terribly fond of Amy Grant ... if that's the same Amy Grant we re talking bout ... learning to forgive and moving on is my challenge right now ... or maybe moving on and then forgive? I don't know yet ... U? Love, cat.

  2. I'm still working my way through the Sunday paper at the present moment...having paused to do the crossword....as for reading a book...I've been too slack in that department of late. And I must rectify the situation. I'm surrounded by books...and yet, only last night, I was thinking I must visit the local library during this coming week!

  3. Your current read sounds quite interesting. I'm plowing my way through "The Power of Now," and a new one by Sam Harris on spirituality.

  4. I am not reading a book currently. The last one I read, I actually listened to: The Nature of the Beast, Louise Penny -- a mystery set in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.

  5. I am reading "Lezioni di fotografia by Luigi Ghirri. It is very difficult though. His writing as a photographer is great. I read” Colorless Tsukuru Tazaki and his Years of Pilgrimage” by Haruki Murakami. This is one of the books I love to read again and again, and I will read this in the winter holidays coming up.
    Have a good day.

  8. Still busy writing NaNoWriMo so I haven't got time to read as well. I'm into the last 5000 words though. You'd think it would get easier! You read a lot of Murakami don't you? Is it the style or the narrative you like?

  9. One of the books I'm reading at the moment is called Keep On Running Until You are 100, or something very similar. I think the author Galloway is not that old. In fact I'm even older than him ;). It's not unusual to meet very good mountain runners in their 70s and 80s these days.

  10. I am pleased to announce that I am on the last few pages of The Lightkeeper's Wife. It was worth the struggle to cope with the fine print.

  11. My current book is "The Son of a Certain Woman" by Wayne Johnston, Canadian writer. I'm around halfway through. I haven't tried Murukami although I have a couple of his books on my "really should read soon" list.

  12. Hi Blogoratti - I'm afraid my reading list is a pile of books ... I'm like you I read all sorts of other things and book reading so often doesn't get into the light of day - and I sadly have loads to read. I haven't tried Murukami .. but obviously need to keep an eye out for your books and broaden my potential reading base ... cheers Hilary

  16. I'm reading Dead Watch by John Sanford and it's about the government. The usual fight between the democrats and the republicans and of course it involves cheating and murder. Typical government goings on. Here's a blurb about the book:

“Former Sen. Lincoln Bowe, a Republican, has been missing for several days, setting off alarms on both sides of the political aisle. Finally, he is discovered in the remote Virginia woods, barb-wired to a tree, burned almost beyond recognition and missing his head. Democratic ‘research assistant’ (read: fixer) Jacob Winter, ex-Army Intelligence, wounded in Afghanistan, is called in by the Democratic president to unravel an extremely messy situation and shield his office from any hint of scandal. As this runaway train picks up speed, innocents are murdered, and the guilty come to Jesus…

    Have a fabulous day. ☺
