Hello folks.
Hope the month has been good to you so far -in many ways than one.

I have been doing a lot more reflection lately, and a lot more reading...which is good.

At the moment I am reading a biography written by Walter Isaacson about Steve Jobs.

A brief from the book:
Based on more than forty interviews with Jobs conducted over two years--as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues--Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

My take so far: 
Already half way through the book, and I must say it is a greatly written book filled with so many historical milestones, emotions -failure, pain, success, intensity, perfection, conflict...that you can't help but keep turning the pages to see what happens next-tuning out the world in the process.

All in all, a very interesting and engaging read so far.

I have learned...

That a simple change in one's perspective goes a long way by giving not only a better view, but also a much better clarity and understanding of everything.

At the foot of a mountain one's view is limited to just the surroundings, but climbing to the very top gives a much better picture as far as the eyes can see.

All improvement in life often comes about when we change our inner attitude, thoughts and beliefs.

What if you had a special ability that you never even knew about. Or maybe you do know, but you are too "busy, scared, or just indifferent about it all..."

The truth is we limit ourselves. We are afraid to come out of our comfort zones -well because it is comfortable, right? We fuss over so many unnecessary things, and leave ourselves with little time to even enjoy anything.

Start thinking of yourself differently from today. Take on new skills, new challenges...create your own realities. Be inspired!

Memory Lane

Have you ever had random memories from the past just flash through your mind as you went about your daily activities? Well I have. And just the other day my mind was taken back to many years ago -things that I had completely forgotten about, and people I could scarcely remember any more.

I have come to realise that the events in our lives happen for a reason, and the people that we come in contact with take away a part of us, just as we take away a part of them too. There are people we would love to say thank you to from the past, and there are people we would rather not see again.

That got me thinking about me, myself and I...

If I were to come in contact with everyone I've met in my lifetime from the past -just how many of them would look me in the eyes and say 'thank you,' and how many wouldn't even bother to see me again? Food for thought no doubt.

Buy beyond all these influences we've had in our individual lives, I've come to the conclusion that it's the people that made us feel special, happy and courageous -the people that gave to us without ever asking anything in return...they are the ones that always bring a smile to our faces whenever we remember them.

The memory of their efforts linger and always brings a warmth to our hearts in this sometimes cold world.

"I can't take this any more. I am leaving you."

"What"? His scream had pierced through my earpiece as I sat in my cubicle at work, during my closing hour. I looked around as my co-workers went about their work, trying to pretend as if they weren't listening in to my phone conversation.  

I can't take it any longer, I think I deserve better...so I'm leaving you John.

At this point he lowered his voice to a barely audible whisper. "Listen to me FiFi, " he said. The nickname he had given me once, now sounded so annoying to my ears.

"Don't call me that," I snapped back.

"Okay sorry, listen to me Sophie, you can't do this to me," he said. "We can make this work, give me another chance, he pleaded."

But I was past caring."Goodbye John, I wish you all the best with your life" I replied and hung up.

I felt numb afterwards. Two years of lies, deceit, fights, abuse and most recently betrayal. I was awash with emotions and didn't know when the tears started flowing.

I had to be brave. I had to move on with myself. I didn't want to appear hysterical so I gathered my things, went to the wash room to re-apply my makeup.

It was 8:00 pm, my evening shift was over so I clocked out of the office building. I didn't want to go back to my apartment, I knew John would be waiting for me there. I had to look for a place -any place, to clear my thoughts.

I went past many bars and cafés on the streets, all very popular with blue collar folks on Friday evenings. The names on them looked vaguely familiar. Invitations to hang out at some 'after work party bar' were always passed around at the office on Fridays -I never attended any. I didn't know how to tell them that I hated crowded places, loud music, and that I barely knew how to drink -without throwing up.

My phone kept ringing in my bag but I ignored it.

I braced myself, and walked into the nearest bar. Tonight I needed to celebrate my freedom....

Delusions

Two rats were fighting in the morning sun.
Their names were Rattus and Ratatat.
Through encrypted mediums I deduced that...
They were feuding over this and that.

I overhead them talking about battalions and plutonium.
It was just outside my bedroom window.
So I told them to lower their noise.
But I was ignored so I threw a pillow.


It floated in the warm air for a bit you see.
And landed far away from the fighting duo.
They stopped and laughed at my bad aim.
Mimicking my throw blow by blow.

So there I stood looking down at them.
Feeling powerless. Like a plant...flowerless. 
I could almost hear them say 'Try again'...
But I just stood there nevertheless.

Next thing I know they shook hands.
Took one last look at me, laughed and scampered away.
I just saved a war between two rat colonies.
But no audience was there to witness the interplay.

I have always loved blogging as a hobby.

When I started out it was the most beautiful thing since sliced bread. I was used to writing out my thoughts and feelings on paper, and notebooks. I would open an empty page and scribble words down. Till date, I still stumble across a few poems here and there in old notebooks -it's like a gift to myself from the past.

Now I'm loving twitter.

When I started out using it, it felt weird typing my thoughts in 140 characters, which is to say I didn't pay too much attention to tweeting then. But now, it's different. I could tweet just three words -and someone somewhere would be able to relate to it, respond to it in a matter of minutes.

It's easy to tweet...but it's becoming a lot harder to blog.

I love blogging. I love tweeting.

Came across a great school design and thought to share. Enjoy!



ROC Mondriaan College at Den Haag, Holland. 


The intended long-term use of the building by the ROC Mondriaan institution is reflected throughout the entire building. The play of colours displayed in the outer shell is one example, but also the multi-functionality of the new building, which appropriately suits the concept of the modern, practice-oriented training courses.




The entirely prefabricated building was manufactured in Germany. The squares on the grid shaped concrete facade feature the school’s colours.






I like the mix of colours. Cool uhn?

Emotions of Reason

Everything happens for a reason.
A very important life lesson no doubt.

But it's not what happens to you that really matters...
It's how you react to it. Emotions control your thinking.

How often have we allowed emotions get the better of us...thereby preventing us from being rational with our actions. The truth is we take our emotions with us everywhere we go, it's a part of us- It'll always be.

The best thing we can do is to try to understand ourselves better and not try to avoid our emotions. We can't keep avoiding feelings of anger, resentment, love, pain, and so on. And we can't keep pretending something doesn't matter to us when it's really eating us up on the inside.

So today, acknowledge all your emotions -both good and bad. Make peace with them, embrace them if you have to, and let go of those you feel aren't moving you forward.

For example some of your emotions could be the cause of you having troubled personal relationships with family and friends all the time. You don't need that, so let it go.

Become the person you once were, that happy person people used to love.
It's okay to be emotional, but try not to let negative emotions ruin your way of life and those of others around you.

I have to admit that the start of a new week always has me looking for new things to do, new goals to achieve and new friends to make perhaps.

Here is ,my list of plans for the week ahead.

1. Be grateful for everything.
2. Workout for 3 days.
3. Eat healthier.
4. Get some research work done.
5. Read two books.
6. Call up an old friend or two.
7. Do something new.
8. Sleep more.
9. Meditate more.
10. Never stop dreaming.

That's my plan for the week, well most of it anyways.

Left to me, reading books is a lot more better sometimes than watching just regular T.v. Give me a cold drink and a good book, and a comfortable sofa and we'll be friends forever,wink*

I have just finished reading 'How To Be A People Magnet' by Leil Lowndes. I would give it a 7/10.

One of my plans for the month was to read at least six books -I am currently on my seventh one. Looks like that goal is coming along nicely.

What have you got planned for the coming month? This might be a good time to create a plan, in case you haven't done so already.

The month of January ends the day after today.

Time is ticking. You've got more potential than you think you do.
Time to prioritize things in your life.
Time to prioritize relationships in your life.

Your priorities should not extend to people who don't have time for you. 

Recognize that you have faults and that's it's okay to have them -no one can be that perfect.

Lastly, we should be grateful to the mirror for showing us only our appearance -not our character. Lord knows, we might not be able to stomach it.

Seeking Sunshine

So when you wake up in the morning, and get ready for the day ahead what occupies your mind the most? Is it plans you have for the day, or you are still sulking over yesterday's failed plans?

A new day offers the opportunity to make actually be better than you were yesterday. And why spend a day doing nothing when you could actually be achieving a lot.

In the mornings you can make a decision whether to have a good day or a bad one, you can decide what you want to eat, what clothes to wear, and so on. You make choices that affect your general well being.

So why would you want someone else to take control of your emotions?
If you easily get angry over little things or little people -that says a lot about your general state of mind.

It's time to engage yourself in positive things and values, time to get a clarity and take hold of your feelings about people, life and relationships. Time to dust your shoulders off and get back to being the 'old happy you.'

Lastly always seek that which gives you personal growth...like a flower seeking sunshine.

Do away with negative associations, connect with positive people today, It will help to expand your capabilities and keep you growing.

Two Clouds And A Sun

'Why do you always move so slow'?

...the sun asked a nearby passing cloud.
'I'm taking my time to enjoy the view,' the cloud replied.
Smiling, it waved and went along while humming a tune.

What a happy cloud, the sun thought. And smiled back :)

The next day another cloud passed by.

The sun blurted out 'let me guess, taking your time to enjoy the view'?
'No, I'm not. I wish I could go faster, arrrgh I hate it all', the cloud replied.
And went along with so much anger brewing inside.

What a sad cloud, the sun thought :(

Don't live a life of 'what ifs'. Instead, picture each day as an experiment in a scientific laboratory..and guess who the scientist is? Yes YOU are!

Try out everything and anything you wish, experiment, make mistakes, laugh at yourself even.

But do take a step back once in a while.

What are those things you are looking at doing differently this time around? And what are those things that you would have to let go -in order for your goals to be achievable?

For you, is it a new year to elevate your current position in life-or is it just another cycle of repetitions, of doing the same things and expecting different outcomes.

You need a plan. We all do.

Make weekly, monthly and yearly plans. Short and medium term goals which will encompass a much broader long term goal for you (2-5 years for example).

So all in all -
*Little things make up great things in the end.
*Start small, start with little goals, little changes you'd like to accomplish.

It is a well known fact that people with clear, written goals accomplish far more in a shorter period of time than people without any whatsoever.

It's the start of new beginnings, so be prepared.
